A Message to our future customers on COVID-19
Dear future customer,
Atxondo is a family made up of our staff, guests and the community we serve. The health, safety and overall wellbeing of our family and yours, is always our top priority.
With this in mind, we have been closely monitoring the rapidly-changing situation around COVID-19 (commonly referred to as coronavirus), responding to new information as it arises and preparing for all possible scenarios, with the goal of opening next week and to safely serve you in our restaurant.
In addition to following the guidance provided by the CDC, WHO and local health departments, we are implementing our response. To err on the side of caution, we have taken the following steps beyond our usual high standards:
- We re-emphasized existing sanitation and illness policies, including frequent and proper hand-washing, and our practices regarding wearing and changing of gloves.
- We’ve emphasized what associates can do to keep themselves and others safe, including not touching one’s face, and staying home if sick.
Be assured we will do everything we can to serve you safely and will continue to closely follow the guidance of the CDC and local health officials. We will always follow the guidance of local health officials as we continue to manage in our community.

Celebrated Spanish Chef Rufino Bautista to Open His Own Surf & Turf Restaurant in March

Washington DC – Great news is coming in for authentic food aficionados as the emerging chef Rufino Bautista has revealed his plan to open up his own restaurant. This culinary venture will see its opening next month at the site where Las Placitas is currently located – 4724 14th Street NW Washington DC. The main cuisine of the upcoming restaurant will be surf and turf as Mr. Bautista plans to put seafood and steaks at the center stage. The celebrated chef Rufino Bautista emigrated from El Salvador and developed an early love and passion for food working at his father’s farm outside of Intipuca. In the late 90s, Mr. Bautista relocated to Washington DC where he acquired a job as a busser. Later on, he found work at Asia Nora where he received culinary training from none other than two of the industry’s best Chef Haidar Karoum and the late Chef Patrick W. Deiss. He worked his way up starting out as an expeditor, a massively challenging job, and then went to work full time in the kitchen.
